Job Summary:
The Mix & Nut Production Supervisor is responsible for the daily execution, material accuracy, labor efficiency, food safety compliance, and team performance across Mix Production and Nut Mix operations.
This role owns output, accuracy, and discipline for both dry mix and nut mix production. The Supervisor ensures production meets schedule, quality, safety, and cost targets every day.
This is a highly hands-on leadership position that requires constant presence on the production floor. The Supervisor works directly with operators, assists with production activities when needed, and actively supports material handling, equipment setup, and line troubleshooting.
This role is expected to lead from the floor, not from an office.
Performance is measured by results, operational discipline, and the ability to keep production running efficiently and safely.
Responsibilities
Leadership, Team Development & Accountability
- Lead, coach, and hold accountable Mix and Nut Production Leads and Operators
- Maintain a strong hands-on presence on the production floor throughout the shift
- Conduct regular 1:1s with key team members
- Set clear expectations for safety, quality, accuracy, and performance
- Enforce attendance, conduct, and performance standards
- Train employees across all mix and nut production positions
- Address performance issues immediately
- Step in and assist with production operations when staffing shortages or production demands require it
- Ensure cross-training and coverage between mix and nut lines
Expected Result: A disciplined, cross-trained team that executes daily production without rework or escalation.
Daily Mix & Nut Production Execution
- Lead daily production startup and execution for mix and nut lines
- Ensure production orders are reviewed, released, and completed correctly
- Ensure all lines are staffed, supplied, and started on time
- Monitor throughput, labor utilization, and efficiency
- Intervene immediately when performance deviates from plan
- Ensure nut mix operations follow allergen and cross-contact controls
- Maintain clean, organized, and GMP-compliant work areas
- Provide hands-on support during line setup, changeovers, and production issues
Expected Result: Production targets are met on time, in full, and to quality standards across all mix operations.
Material Planning, Accuracy & ERP Discipline
- Plan daily raw material needs for mix and nut production
- Create and execute daily pick tickets
- Enforce FIFO and lot control 100 percent of the time
- Ensure accurate staging of ingredients for both mix and nut lines
- Assist with ingredient handling and staging when required to support production flow
- Reconcile end-of-day ingredient and nut inventory
- Ensure ERP consumption and output are entered accurately
Expected Result: 100 percent inventory accuracy with zero unexplained variances.
Food Safety, GMP, HACCP & SQF Compliance
- Enforce GMP, HACCP, SQF, and allergen control requirements
- Ensure nut handling, segregation, and sanitation controls are followed
- Complete CCP documentation accurately and on time
- Verify metal detector, weight, and pallet checks
- Ensure lot and case code accuracy
- Maintain audit-ready conditions at all times
- Immediately address food safety or sanitation deviations on the floor
Expected Result: Clean audits, zero food safety incidents, and zero allergen control failures.
KPI Ownership & Performance Management
KPIs:
- Daily mix and nut output vs plan
- Labor efficiency
- Material and nut inventory accuracy
- ERP accuracy
- FIFO compliance
- Allergen compliance
- GMP and SQF audit scores
Responsibilities:
- Track and review KPIs daily
- Communicate results and expectations to the production team
- Identify performance gaps and corrective actions
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives
Expected Result: A predictable, measurable, and improving mix and nut operation.
Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
- Identify inefficiencies, waste, and production bottlenecks
- Improve changeovers, material flow, and labor utilization
- Partner with Maintenance on equipment reliability and downtime reduction
- Support trials, new products, and process changes
Expected Result: Improving throughput, reduced errors, and stable operations.
Physical Requirements
This role requires regular physical activity in a manufacturing environment.
The Mix & Nut Production Supervisor must be able to:
- Lift, carry, and move materials up to 50 pounds regularly
- Assist operators with ingredient handling, bag loading, and material staging when needed
- Stand and walk for extended periods during production shifts
- Work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with dust, noise, and temperature variation
- Perform repetitive bending, reaching, and lifting activities
This is a hands-on production leadership role, and the Supervisor is expected to actively support production operations when required.
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 3–5 years food manufacturing experience
- 2+ years lead or supervisory experience
- ERP manufacturing experience
- GMP and HACCP knowledge
Preferred:
- SQF experience
- Forklift certification
